Barcelona’s release of Argentina’s Gabriel Milito confirmed

One year was left on Gabriel Milito’s contract at Barcelona but the Catalans decided to part company with the defender.

A statement on Barcelona’s official website read:

“FC Barcelona and Gabriel Alejandro Milito have reached an agreement to release the Argentinean, whose contract expires on 30th June 2012.”

The Argentine player experienced good moments with Barcelona amid frustrating periods due to frequent injuries. During his 4 years at the Camp Nou, the defender featured for the Catalans 75 times and scored 2 goals.

Gabriel Milito had joined Barcelona from Real Zaragoza for a transfer fee of €18.5M back in 2007. Before his spell at La Romareda where he used to play with his brother Diego Milito, Gabriel was an Independiente player between 1997 and 2003.

He made 123 appearances for the Argentine club and netted 3 goals. Following his release by Barcelona, Gabriel Milito has returned to Independiente where he will have the opportunity of being closer to his family.
